Mavericks Need to Blame The Men in The Mirror
June 22, 2006

When you crumble an assured 3-0 series lead in less than six minutes, barely show up for the second half of game four, and then devolve into mental breakdowns and post-game temper-tantrums after game five, not to mention…not having a comprehensive defensive strategy for Wade in any of those games? You lose any right to claim that anyone, let alone the NBA, took the series from you. In short, when the time came for them to take the series as their own, the Mavericks choked. Steve Javie doesn’t shoot three’s. Bennett Salvatore and Ed Rush don’t play defense. Dick Bavetta doesn’t dunk on the inside post. (Nor do the Mavericks’ centers, for that matter.) The refs do not win or lose games for teams, so to blame them for the fact that your team lost is somewhat ridiculous. And petty.
You see, when it was certain to everyone that Miami was finished all those days ago, we didn’t hear a peep out of the Heat. Not a word. When the Mavericks lost in all those games down in Miami, however, all we ever heard was crying—about the Stackhouse suspension, the timeout that Josh Howard called, the foul discrepancies, waah, waah, waah. When you have an owner, a good owner at that, posing as a drunken fan, who is shouting down referees and giving the Commissioner of the League death glares, you might want to consider that he’s not doing your club any favors with the people at the administrative office in New York.

The Splendor of Losers, Paid For By FEMA

Any critique of disaster preparedness coming out of the Department of Homeland Security ought to be treated with a cumulative eye-roll from practically every governor and mayor in America. Because we’ve all been living witnesses to what DHS can do in times of trouble. The DHS is an uneccessary federal micromanagement agency, and all they did was take twenty-plus separate agencies, which were working just fine, save for one incident, and make it the most inefficient government agency this side of the Department of Education.
