Perhaps the single, most annoying event in television sports (aside from T.O.’s tired “Me First” act) was the annual CBS NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament Selection Show, where CBS’ lead broadcast duo of Jim Nantz and Billy Packer managed to annoy the living crap out of America by going off on the most nonsensical tangent ever witnessed in NCAA selection show history (or since Dick Vitale’s act two years prior).

The “N” Word: Why Does Everyone Want A Ban Now?

I don’t care that Richards went on Jesse Jackson’s radio show to “apologize for offending black people”. “Black people” in general isn’t who he should be apologizing to, in my opinion. From where I sit, Richards doesn’t need to apologize to me for showing me how stupid he is–he ought to have sacked up, been a man, pulled the actual people in the club that he offended aside, and offered a honest, forthright apology within hours after it happened. That didn’t happen. No, instead, he went on Letterman, then on Jackson’s show, then into a hole whilst his agent and attorneys hit the ground attempting to salvage any credibility he has left. Richards has apologized to everyone in every forum execpt for the people whom he actually offended that night. And now, with the offended party bringing Gloria Allred into this picture, we now have another typical story custom-made for the “15 Minutes of Fame” record book. By the time that Richards finally apologizes to these dudes in person, it will mean nothing, and will be cheapened by the appearance of retired judges and a negotiation for a settlement. That’s not an apology–that’s exploitation.
